About Us

Miriam’s passion for cake making began at age ten, inspired by her mother, a trained confectioner who baked at home for leisure. She recognized the commercial potential of the craft when her mother made her wedding cake, saving her the cost of hiring a professional baker. After voluntarily leaving paid employment in 2002, Miriam chose to pursue cake making professionally. She committed to extensive upskilling through training programs at leading local and international sugarcraft schools.

A trailblazer in the cake industry, she founded Mel Cakes and More, now a distinguished brand. The enterprise facilitates the highly successful Lekki Cake International Exhibition, which attracts confectionery consumables and equipment manufacturers, dealers, cake makers, and trainers from across Nigeria, West Africa, Europe, and North America.

A gifted instructor, Miriam is the pioneering Nigeria – accredited tutor for the renowned Paul Bradford Sugarcraft School of Scotland, United Kingdom and has organized live online interactive sessions for the local sugarcraft community with Paul Bradford himself. She continually seeks to break new ground in the industry.

Miriam is passionate about the wellbeing of young women around her and runs a fully subsidized cake-making empowerment program for them. She has also authored two well-received books: Easy to Bake for children, and Guide to Cake and Pastry Making.

In recent years, the exhibition has expanded its focus to empower Nigerian’s youth and persons living with disabilities, providing a platform for them to showcase their talents and access support. The success of the “Ability in Disability” program at the 2025 edition underscored the need for consistent enabling support for persons with disabilities to contribute to the economy and national development.

This resulted in the birthing of Miriam’s Foundation For Disability Inclusion which aims to train and raise physically challenged bakers and empower them with basic required equipment, to enable them to live self sustained and fulfilled lives.

A world that recognizes talent before limitation, where the global baking community is defined by its diversity and the shared pursuit of inclusive artistry.

A future where Africa’s culinary landscape is fully accessible, empowering a new generation of physically challenged bakers to shape the continent’s food identity and inspire global change.

To serve as the premier global advocate for bakers with physical challenges, committed to showcasing their skills, inspiring others to overcome barriers, and ensuring everyone can savor the fulfillment of inclusive culinary arts.
